About Us
Sukoon Care & Support Ltd is a Sheffield-based provider of mental health supported living, delivering the regulated activity of Personal Care within Supported Living Services across South Yorkshire and neighbouring regions.
We are not a large national chain, and we do not want to be. We are a team of people who chose this work, who have done it long enough to know how hard it can be, and who have not lost the ability to see the person rather than the diagnosis.
Our Team
Experience that runs from the office to the front door
Good supported living is not built on a single impressive CV. It is built on a whole team pulling in the same direction — and that is how we have put ours together. From our management and governance through to our senior support workers and the support workers who sit with people on their hardest days, we bring together decades of combined experience in mental health, safeguarding, housing and social care.
Our leadership brings governance, regulatory compliance and multi-disciplinary team leadership across the health, housing and community sectors, alongside board-level and programme-management experience and independent external oversight of our practice. Our senior staff bring day-to-day operational judgement, care planning expertise and the confidence to make good decisions under pressure. Our support workers bring the thing that matters most: the willingness to keep showing up, consistently and without judgement.
We provide social care services with compassion and integrity, and possess the relevant experience, knowledge and competence to do so. Our team is led by our experienced Registered Manager, and we provide safe, well-managed support delivered by comprehensively trained, experienced and committed staff with a positive track record in health and social care.
Empathy is a qualification too
Everyone on our team is qualified on paper — the Care Certificate for those new to care, enhanced DBS checks for all, verified certificates, and specialist mental health training as a matter of course. But we recruit for something the certificates cannot show us. Many of our team have their own lived experience of mental health, or have cared for someone who does. We use value-based interviewing, and where people want to be involved, we invite the individuals we support into the selection process. They know better than anyone who they want walking through their door.
A team people can rely on
Consistency is the quiet foundation of mental health support. A person who has been let down repeatedly does not need another rota of unfamiliar faces. That is why we assign a key worker to each person, match staff to interests and needs rather than availability alone, and invest in training, development and staff wellbeing so that our people stay — and so the people we support get the same team, week after week.
Our staff are supported through regular supervision, annual appraisal, regular team meetings and ongoing professional development. Well-supported staff deliver better care. It really is that simple.
Multilingual and culturally connected
Our team reflects the communities we serve, with languages including English, Bengali and Urdu spoken within the service. We recognise our service users’ diversity, ensuring religious, cultural, racial and gender identities are respected — and we ask that service users and their carers respect the rights of staff to that same non-discriminatory approach.
Independent scrutiny of our own practice
We think a provider who is confident in their practice should be willing to have it examined. Alongside our internal governance, we have appointed an external mentor and independent governance advisor — an experienced Registered Manager with statutory CQC accountability, a qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead and Mental Health First Aider — who provides independent oversight across quality assurance, safeguarding practice, care planning, staff supervision and regulatory compliance.
They give us regular governance reviews, guidance on statutory notifications and incident management, and constructive challenge when we need it. This is an added layer of independent scrutiny that reinforces our commitment to safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led care.
Our Aims and Objectives
Our aim is to support adults to maintain their own supported living tenancies. In everything we do, we:
Support individuals in line with the NHS Community Mental Health Framework for Adults and Older Adults, the Mental Health Act 1983 Code of Practice, and the recovery-focused approach promoted by NICE guidance.
Strive continually to improve our services, acting on feedback from service users, staff and external professionals.
Support individuals with protected characteristics, ensuring equality and diversity is key within our services.
Empower individuals to achieve positive outcomes and reach their goals through personalised care plans.
Support individuals to live as independently as possible, focusing on their strengths and celebrating their achievements.
Promote positive risk-taking and support individuals to engage in positive relationships.
Promote our service users' choices and individuality, upholding their rights at the forefront of our care.
Take all complaints seriously, investigating them thoroughly and acting to improve the quality of our services.
Encourage the inclusion of family and friends in care reviews, where appropriate.
Employ only highly qualified carers and experienced support staff.
Deliver services that are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
Meet service users' physical and emotional needs and overall well-being in a dignified, non-judgemental way.
Treat all information received in the course of our duties with the utmost confidentiality.
Our Ethos
The ethos of care in our service is to assist service users in acquiring the emotional, psychological, social and practical skills needed to enable them to enjoy the quality of life they aspire to. We promote independence, self-confidence and well-being, empowering people to discover their own potential.
We create a transparent, positive culture that encourages a person-centred, rather than a problem-centred approach — with professional structure and guidance that recognises people’s strengths and achievements.
Who We Support
Our support is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over, including older adults aged 65+, living with mental health conditions. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Psychosis
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar affective disorder
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Personality disorders
- Other enduring mental health needs
We do not provide services to individuals whose primary needs relate to learning disabilities, autism or physical disabilities.
Where We Work
We are based in Darnall, east Sheffield, and deliver support across the whole South Yorkshire region — Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley — as well as into neighbouring areas of West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Our office is the administrative base; the work itself happens where people live.
